What was your favorite Christmas present?

This was mine!

Gone with the Wind is my favorite novel and this is my third copy of it. Hopefully the one I'll end up keeping.

My first copy was the one I got when I was fifteen. I read it so many times that the book fell apart, and no amount of Scotch tape would keep it together.

My second copy stayed with me for several years, until I started tutoring a student in English Literature. She wanted to read more but wasn't sure where to start, so I gave her my copy of GWTW and we watched the film together.

After that I didn't have a copy of my favorite novel. I would eventually have bought myself one, but there are some books ahead of it on my to-obtain list - books that I haven't read twenty times over. So I was surprised and thrilled when a friend gave me a copy (she also gave me a Transformer, but GWTW edged that out).

What was your favorite gift?

Also, final grades for the semester arrived in time for Christmas!

Clinical Chemistry : A
Clinical Microbiology and Infectious Diseases : A
Hematology : A
Transfusion Science : A-

So that was nice too. :)

Yeek! I sure hope your first copy wasn't a first edition. LOL. Just kidding.

My favorite gifts were two fountain pens. I've always wanted one, and they're even greater than I imagined!

thewriteshadow - The only way I know my first copy couldn't have been a first edition (because the cover was torn off) was that it had pictures from the movie. Otherwise, I would probably always wonder.

And the fountain pens sound like such an elegant gift. I used to have one when I was in high school and I always felt... refined, somehow, when using it.

Randall, A. Shelton - thanks! :) Next semester is the last one with actual classes and exams, what a relief. After that it's training for clinical placement.

Congrats on all your recent triumphs!

Taking the Canadian citizenship exam, passing this semester's final exams, and getting a copy of that beloved book.

Marian, I never would have taken you for a GWTW fan.

Congrats on the A's. That is a fantastic Christmas present. One I know you worked hard to get.

My favorite gift was my family going to my wish list on amazon.com and buying me a bunch of my favorite cd's and books! Gone With the Wind is a favorite of mine too!

Maria : You mean I don't remind you of Scarlett O'Hara in any way? I don't know whether that's a good thing or not. :D

Thanks, Loren! Yes, that was a great way to end the year. I hope you and your family enjoyed the holiday too!

Saffina - A Kindle? Lucky you! And I enjoyed the excerpt of Sugar and Spice on your blog.

Sharon : Sounds like a great gift! Though wish lists have a way of filling up again fast. :)

Thanks, Alex! I gave up a lot of writing time to study, so I'm glad it paid off - and even more pleased about having some time to write again.
