It's almost here...
The official paperback release date of Before the Storm
is February 1st (it even got a mention on one of Tor's blogs, which left me delighted!).
This is exciting but scary at the same time - nerve-wracking in a way that pathogenic bacteriology never was. But real-life promotion has a way of doing that to me. It's much easier to do so online, although I know I have to get out of my comfort zone. My book is worth it.
So this will be a tumultuous week, and not just because of the book. There's another piece of wonderful news I've waited a long time to see, and here's a picture of it.
That turned out smaller than I expected, so here's what it says : "NOTICE TO APPEAR - TO TAKE THE OATH OF CITIZENSHIP. Please appear on 04 February 2011, 1:00 pm."
I'm going to miss two classes, but my instructors were fine with it once they heard the reason. And I love the bubblegum-pink color of the paper. Just the right color on a cold winter day.
It's a complete coincidence that this happened the same week as my book's paperback release, but sometimes lovely coincidences happen. :)
And tomorrow there'll be a guest post from Lisabet Sarai, on the topic of anticipation - something every writer knows a lot about. So stay tuned... there's so much going on in February that I'm starting the celebration now!

Congratulations on both fronts! I'll be sure to pick up a copy of your book. :D
Considering I read your blog pretty often I'd really love to read it. I just love your posts on here about world building. Inspired a lot out of me. (jungle dwelling, snake toting, butterfly eating, salt spreading elves. Ursinataurs (torso of a human body of a polar bear) who travel on the backs of migrating whales. Dwarves who live in the desert underground close to water sources. Just to name one world.)
Congratulations! I really enjoy your blog, and I hope your book makes a big splash!
Congrats and welcome :)
Marian,
I want to wish you major congratulations on both successes.
That is so wonderful!
Congratulations - hope it sellsreally really well!
Didzioba - Thanks very much! Worldbuilding is the most fun part of writing fantasy, for me, so I love doing those posts.
And the butterfly-eating elves are a great touch. I'll never be able to look at a picture of Orlando Bloom without that image popping into my head.
Lindsay - Thank you!
There are still moments when I look at my author's copies and wonder, did I really come this far? Because it doesn't seem like so long ago that I was working in a lab in Texas when I jotted down Alex's and Robert's names on a piece of scrap paper...
Jadzia - Thanks! I'm glad the oath ceremony is on Friday. I have a festive day planned. :)
Tasha - Thank you!
I'm hoping to write up a short story about what it was like trying to get into Canada, and post that in installments building up to the big day. Compared to the immigration process, getting published was like jumping into a pile of marshmallows.
Kate - I'll do my best. :) And thanks for the good wishes!
Oh, congratulations! Both of those are pretty big occurrences. Be sure to celebrate a little!
Great news, Marian. You've made it into dead-tree publishing. You also got invited to take the citizenship oath only two months after taking the citizenship test.
Sung - Oh yes, I plan to celebrate at the end of the week. There's a bottle of wine with my name on it.
Loren - Thanks! And you noticed the quick response? I wasn't expecting that so soon, so it was a very pleasant surprise.
