As Judas said in Jesus Christ Superstar, "Israel in 4 BC had no mass communication."

Still incredibly trusting of the Saxons, though. Even if the chieftain had truly repented of his sins and sworn never to pick up another battleaxe, he was dead. How could the Saxons be sure his successor wouldn't leap up and say something like, "You see what baptism gets you? A trip to the graveyard! Now let's give Odin's ravens a feast, men!"Marian Pererahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15700524210146863718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2125325709844932289.post-17891993760360160742009-12-29T15:01:51.589-05:002009-12-29T15:01:51.589-05:00This is a great review. I've been to that chalky white horse in Yorkshire and it was a little disappointing. The last thing it made me think of was a horse.

So many of the people you see in British coastal towns are tall and blonde; the Viking influence is obvious. Their methods of killing and torturing people were horrific, but you've got to wonder at the Saxons, falling for that funeral trick more than once.Mary Witzlhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06458299046574564155noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2125325709844932289.post-23823321427466634052009-12-28T00:43:08.616-05:002009-12-28T00:43:08.616-05:00I haven't read the book, but I always enjoy yo...I haven't read the book, but I always enjoy your reviews.

This cracked me up: "I believe he ended up being baptized at least three or four times, or until people caught on to the ruse."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2125325709844932289.post-89549228691785094402009-12-25T13:08:16.576-05:002009-12-25T13:08:16.576-05:00I have to admit, one reason I kept reading was to ...I have to admit, one reason I kept reading was to see what the Vikings were going to do next. :)Marian Pererahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15700524210146863718noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2125325709844932289.post-46012633468209745802009-12-25T12:30:48.615-05:002009-12-25T12:30:48.615-05:00It's interesting how different people can have...It's interesting how different people can have such different perspectives on books (which makes it hard to write them!). I read this same book and was so bored by it that I had trouble reading more than a page at a time.Linda Maye Adamshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07203020058437093901noreply@blogger.com
